Malta Film Fund special edition to boost local film production

Selected projects could be awarded a maximum grant of €120,000, with a maximum of €20,000 for Short Films, and a maximum of €2,500 for New Talent Short Films

The Malta Film Commission will this year release a special edition of the Malta Film Fund in a bid to boost the number of Maltese and Gozitan film production, in preparation for Malta’s presidency of the EU in January, and Valletta becoming the European capital of culture in 2018.

New and established filmmakers are being invited to present production projects such as films, animations, documentaries, and even television series, aimed at an international audience.

Proposed projects will be evaluated independently by a panel of professionals, including foreign experts from the film industry.

With a budget allocation of €250,000, selected projects could be awarded a maximum grant of €120,000, with a maximum of €20,000 for Short Films, and a maximum of €2,500 for New Talent Short Films.

Beneficiaries of selected projects will be provided training and professional mentoring.

This special edition of the Malta Film Fund will open on the 1 September and will run till 31 October.
