Il-Kennies tal-Ġenna tells the story of one Ganni Borg who, following an agreement with the Valletta Local Council sweeps the streets of the capital by night so that we find them clean on the next morning.

Before he was constrained to turn to the broom to eke out a living, is-Sur John was a prominent and respected member of the banking profession.

The man's irresistible honesty however, kept him back from indulging in Ismacuc (Listen-you-dolt), a new style of conversation locally introduced to better express the spirit of the times in contemporary Malta.

When the now broken man finds himself engulfed in the silence of his new surroundings Ġanni discovers how life in the Capital City had fallen from grace in much the same way as his own life had been effected.

And this is how he finds his ‘Heaven’ which naturally creates a profound bond between the two newly found buddies: City and Sweeper.

The play is directed by Josette Ciappara, with stage design by Pierre Portelli, original music by Mro Paul Abela, choreography by Alison White, lighting by Chris Gatt and costume design by Giovan Attard.

Cast includes Mario Micallef, Carlos Farrugia, Kris Spiteri, Nathalie Micallef, Ivan Debattista, Anthony Ellul and a host of up-and-coming talent.

Tickets for the event are available from ticketline.com.mt or from the Embassy box office and from Pjazza Teatru Rjal in Valletta. Tickets start from €10. This production is being supported by Arts Council Malta and PBS.
