Masquerade announces local production of 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'

The play will be on at the Manoel Theatre in Valletta between 16 and 18 October, and again on 23 and 24 October.

Masquerade Theatre Productions is proud to announce that it is set to stage a local production of Dale Wasserman’s adaptation of Ken Kesey’s 1962 classic novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest

The play will be on at the Manoel Theatre in Valletta between 16 and 18 October, and again on 23 and 24 October.

The cult-classic novel, One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, which has spawned an equally well-known film starring Jack Nicholson, was adapted to theatre by Dale Wasserman.

The play first made its debut on Broadway in 1963 and has since experienced two revivals, one off-Broadway in 1971 with Danny DeVito playing the role of Martini, and another in 2001 on Broadway, for which it won a Tony Award for Most Outstanding Revival. The play, like the novel, deals with mental health institutions and the way the human mind processes being in an asylum.

The local version will be directed by British director Stephen Oliver, who is renowned locally for his work with Festen and Butterflies are Free, while the set has been created by renowned Italian designer Aldo Moretti.

The stellar cast will be headed by Alan Paris as McMurphy and Alexandra Camilleri Warne as Nurse Ratched. It will also include actors Victor DeBono, Joe Depasquale, Andre Agius, Michael Mangion, Renato Dimech, Dominic Said, Colin Willis, Rebecca Camilleri, RambertAttard, Gianni Selvaggi, Christina Frendo, Nathan Alakkad, Emma Micallef, Franco Sciberras and Albert Scalpello.
