Finance Minister Edward Scicluna today inaugurated the new Mediterranean Corporate Bank office in Sliema and said that the new venture is a positive development, which would contribute to the country’s economic growth.

Noting that the bank’s main business consists in lending money to companies, Scicluna said that Mediterranean Corporate Bank will play a pivotal role in attracting new investment.

Mediterranean Bank CEO Mark Watson said the bank which currently employs 260 people had achieved rapid progress since 2009 and the opening of the corporate branch was a “milestone” in the development of Mediterranean Bank Group.

“Over the past five years we have extended services and broadened our market penetration through a highly focused approach that has differentiated us from other banks,” he said.

Echoing Scicluna, he said the bank’s growing corporate client base would eventually contribute to the country’s economic growth.

Opposition MP and former finance minister Tonio Fenech was among the guests present for the bank's inauguration.
