Christmas is the time of giving and receiving gifts and Maltese families spend more and more each year on something special for their loved ones and friends.

MaltaToday visited Valletta today and found it packed with revelers out for a relaxing day, looking for some bargain or returning some unwanted gift.

We spoke to some people to determine how much they spent on gifts this Christmas and discovered that families spent anything from €200 to over €1,000 on gifts alone.

Many said they spent an equal amount on food and beverage for the family Christmas lunch.
