The Nationalist Party’s parliamentary group will decide what stand it should take on the proposed referendum to abolish spring hunting only when the referendum is confirmed, opposition leader Simon Busuttil said.

He was however quick to point out that the PN did not take part in the collection of signatures petitioning an abrogative referendum.

In reply to accusations by Prime Minister Joseph Muscat of abstaining on a series of issues, including hunting, Busuttil said that the party’s track record in government showed that it has been “consistent” and never shied away from taking a stand.

Speaking to MaltaToday after a visit at BMIT in Tal-Handaq industrial estate, Busuttil said that the PN would take a stand when the referendum on spring hunting is confirmed, however he insisted that parties should take a step back and let the people decide.

“”Ultimately, the people will have the last word and what the parties say is irrelevant,” he added.

Flanked by MP Claudio Grech and PN candidates for the European Parliament elections Norman Vella and Helga Ellul, Busuttil also toured the BMIT offices.

The PN leader said this week, the party would outline its economic vision which sees its foundations on the creative economy.

Busuttil urged the government to develop tailor-made schemes for businesses investing in the creative economy.
