Garbage to Gardens is a year-long campaign that, with European funding, aims to create awareness on composting in Malta. A group of individuals and NGOs have set up a number to teach the basic principles of composting techniques. The campaign, which started in May 2013 organised some 20 workshops and provided free hands-on training to help inspire people to turn waste into food.

Over the campaign a plot of land at the Why Not? Mgarr Creativity Vortex was regenerated using compost to show the effective benefits of compost with different methods to provide suitable solutions for gardens and apartments alike. The free workshops were organised for both adults and school children.

The campaign draws to a close on Sunday 6 July with the final workshop which will include talks about compost, and workshops on how to grow your own vegetables. The evening will end with entertainment by members of Red Electrik and Mana Tapu along with drinks and homemade food.
