BirdLife Malta have reopened their Is-Simar and Għadira nature reserves to the public every weekend until May.

“We welcome all visitors to explore the nature reserves and to get outdoors,” reserve manager Mark Gauci said in a statement. “Visiting the reserves allows spending a while in a peaceful atmosphere within nature, and it is free of charge. Providing such opportunity for everyone is very important for BirdLife Malta.

Both nature reserves have a unique habitat for the islands and are rich in bio-diversity, making them a great place to visit. They are now open every weekend until May and we hope to see lots of people coming back to enjoy them.”

Is-Simar Nature Reserve in Xemxija is now open on Sundays 10am-4pm, and the Għadira Nature Reserve in Mellieħa is open on Saturdays and Sundays 10am-4pm.

Last weekend, BirdLife Malta hosted a special family event at Is-Simar Nature Reserve to mark the re-opening of the nature reserves for the winter season.

Throughout the morning children attending the event took part in a unique activity within the nature reserve which included a story session, nature exploration activities, and getting to see beautiful birds up close through a bird ringing demonstration.
