65 people from 38 local NGOs have received free training by the Terra Firma collective last year, as part of a project co-financed by European Economic Area grants.

Terra Firma chairperson JD Farrugia said in a statement that seven training sessions were conducted by East to West Communications, a Malta-based company with partners in the UK, Germany and Turkey.

“10 years after Malta joined the EU, many Maltese NGOs still struggle due to lack of funds and human resources which are hindering their most important social and environmental work,” Farrugia said.

TerraFirma was launched last year as a collective of environmental NGOs, intended to put forward a united voice on green issues.

In his statement, Farrugia also announced the launch of training manuals for NGOs, tailor-made for Maltese organisations to improve their skills in areas such as fundraising, developing strategic plans, board governance, and media relations.
