Local designers Carla Grima and Yana Azzopardi team up for first collaborative fashion show

Be a part of a delicious night mixing local talents from across the board on 1 August at the beautiful Xara Lodge. Maltese fashion designers Carla Grima and Yana Azzopardi, live music from the up and coming Maltese band, The New Victorians, DJs Dockerbone and Zicotron from Electro-Swing along with a fantastic barbecue, with free-flowing wine and great raffle prizes. All proceeds will go to Maya Universe Academy.

Carla Grima Atelier has a single vision: to capture nature’s luxury. Inspired by organic silhouettes and the colours of the Mediterranean, natural fabrics are transformed into unique pieces to treasure for summer, autumn, sea and sunset. Crafted through a combination of watercolour techniques, photography and digital printing, each garment is the collaboration of human hands, nature and machine. High-quality silk, cotton and wool fibres allow skin to breathe, and an innovative one-size system fits multiple silhouettes. Carla Grima Atelier stands for cosmic harmony, the natural beauty of imperfection and effortless elegance.

Yana's Jewellery, was founded in 2011 by Yana Azzopardi a self-taught jewellery designer with a fuelled ambition to design vibrant and feminine jewellery pieces. Yana's jewellery does both handmade customisable designs and also has a range of pre-designed pieces for sale. Her work has been designed for a range of local clients, initially close friends and family and slowly word-of-mouth has set her going. Proceeds of the night will go to the Maya Universe Academy, which is a network of schools in rural Nepal which provides education to children in exchange for two days of volunteering work per month from their parents. It is the first and only free private school in Nepal with a model which can be adapted and replicated in other developing countries in the long run.

Drinking spring water, tending fields, cooking on an open fire, and baring the harsh conditions of living in a remote village of Nepal, the volunteers offer the opportunity of education to children otherwise overlooked.
