A mental health board shall be appointed soon in order to align the work done by the government and NGOs, health minister Chris Fearne has said.

Speaking at the Richmond Foundation’s annual conference, Fearne said that in recent days, he has visited community day centres together with Mount Carmel CEO Kevin Schembri. “This treatment model seems to be a success as the people making use of these centres are finding them very useful,” the minister said.

Fearne added that in this sector, Malta’s NGOs were an important resource, and that the government and civil society had to work together in order to improve treatment for mental health issues.
