Officer escorting President injured in traffic accident

A police officer escorting President Marie Louise Preca towards Valletta was injured in a traffic accident in Triq Dicembru Tlettax.

Initial reports suggest the officer, who was driving a motorcycle, was involved in a collision with a car driven by a 20-year-old man.

According to tvm.com.mt, the President helped the injured officer into her car as they waited for an ambulance. She also spoke with the driver and passenger who were in the other car.

The officer is being treated for injuries at Mater Dei Hospital. The extent of his injuries is not yet known.

The Police’s communication office is advising motorists that one of the lanes is closed.
