Alleged thief attempted to burgle four homes during 90-minute spell

Youth from St Paul’s Bay remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to robbing a house, and to four attempted thefts in Birkirkara.

A 25-year-old man from St Paul’s Bay was today remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to committing a theft and four attempted thefts from five separate homes in Birkirkara.

The court heard that the alleged thefts all occurred on 27 August between 1:45pm and 3:00pm. Sources said the accused, Clint Dalton, used to allegedly walk through the streets in Birkirkara looking for homes with an open front door.

He then used to allegedly enter into the homes and steal whatever he could find, even if residents were in their homes. Moreover, it is also understood, that whenever he was caught stealing, Dalton would tell his victims that he was looking for someone or that he had lost something.

Standing in court this afternoon, Dalton denied stealing €205 from a house in Sqaq Rigu, Birkirkara, and to the attempted theft of houses in Triq il-Mithna, Triq il-Ferrovija, Triq Rigu, as well as Sqaq Rigu.

The accused also pleaded not guilty to committing the crime during the operative period of a suspended sentence, to relapsing, and to breaching bail conditions

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit denied bail and remanded the man in custody.

Inspectors Fabian Fleri and Priscilla Caruana prosecuted while Lawyer Joe Brincat represented the accused.
