Police arrest bus passenger whom commuter accused of being a pickpocket

Police arrest Romanian national after woman travelling aboard bus accuses the man of being a pickpocket.

Police have arrested a Romanian national for questioning, after he was allegedly accused of being a pickpocket by a woman aboard a bus.

Earlier this afternoon, at 3pm the police were told by a woman at a police station that three men aboard a bus travelling to Valletta were “pickpockets” she had identified.

Units from the Rapid Intervention Unit were despatched to physically stop the buses en route from St Julian’s to Valletta, until one of the units stopped a bus on the way to Sliema, where a suspect matching the description given by the woman was arrested and taken to the Floriana headquarters for questioning.

The CID and district police are investigating. The two other men accused by the woman were not found.
