Traffic incident leads to fist fight on the Coast Road
Good Samaritan and another driver suffered grievous injuries
A 48-year man who stopped to help a driver who was involved in a traffic accident early this morning came to blows with another driver, with both men suffering grievous injuries as a result.
The accident happened on the Coast Road, limits of Naxxar, at about 5.00 a.m. when a driver lost control of his car due to slippery road conditions and ended in a small ditch by the side of the road.
Another driver stopped to see if he could be of any help and since the driver of the car that ended in the ditch was unhurt, the good Samaritan took out a flashlight to signal oncoming traffic to slow down.
Sources told MaltaToday that a unit from the RIU and later District Police were both on the scene to offer assistance but as no one was injured, their help was not required.
A few minutes later a towtruck was on the scene of the accident to pull the car from the ditch. This slowed the traffic and the driver kept signaling the other drivers with his flashlight.
Apparently a 28-year-old driver stopped nearby and allegedly got into an argument with him, ending in a fist fight.
Both men sought medical assistance at Mater Dei hospital. The 48-year-old suffered fractured bones in his face and the 28-year-old had a broken nose.
District Police were informed of the incident but neither driver sought to press charges.
