Libyan who harassed woman he obsessively wanted to marry is conditionally discharged

A 27-year-old Libyan was conditionally discharged after a court heard how he was 'obsessed' with marrying her

Ahmed Aqeil appeared before magistrate Neville Camilleri charged with harassing and threatening Abid Dejabili. He was also charged with failing to obey a policeman’s legitimate orders and breaching the peace.

Inspector Jason Francis Sultana told the court how Ageil called Dejabili more than 28 times on her mobile phone from an unknown number. He even threatened to kill her.

Aqeuil was arrested by the police after the woman filed a report, however the accused resisted arrest and escaped, causing slight injuries to two police officers in the process.

He explained to the court that he did so because he feared he would be deported back to Libya,

The magistrate handed down a two-year a conditional discharge, also ordering Aqeil not to approach or contact his former girlfriend in any way for the next three years.

Noel Bartolo appeared for the accused. Inspector Jason Francis Sultana led the prosecution.
