New Police CEO to report directly to Chief of Police

Police force reorgansiation structure to emphasise on training of all officers

A new chief executive officer for the Police Force will be appointed in the coming months, following a reorganization of the Police Force structure.

Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela said the CEO would report directly to the Police Commissioner.

He also highlighted the need for continuous training among all members of the disciplined force: “Education should be a priority for all members of the police force.”

Government’s plans include the setting up of a new police college with accredited certificates, replacing the current Police Academy.

Abela was speaking during a promotion ceremony for 29 new inspectors held at the headquarters. He said that the Police Force should be equipped with the best human resources, both in terms of quality and quantity.

The newly promoted inspectors have qualifications  in psychology, criminology, science, computing, management, marketing and Doctorate of Laws.

“This achievement shows that the Police Force is succeeding in attracting high quality individuals whilst motivating its members to continue enhancing their academic skills,” the minister said.

Police Commissioner Michael Cassar said the new inspectors would be given opportunities to merge their academic aspect with practical fieldwork.
