Probation for Algerian who pleaded guilty to repeatedly defiling his niece

The accused pleaded guilty to touching his young niece inappropriately while she was asleep at her grandmother's house

A court has imposed a probation order on a man who admitted to defiling his niece on several occasions.

Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona delivered the sentence after he was told how, on several occasions between December 2013 and April 2014, the accused, who hails from Algeria, had touched the young girl inappropriately while she was asleep at her grandmother’s house.

The court was also told that the man has an alcohol problem.

The accused pleaded guilty to the charges and was handed a three-year probation order. In addition to this, the court also issued a three-year protection order for the minor.

Police Inspectors Sylvana Briffa and Roderick Agius prosecuted. Lawyer Patrick Valentino appeared for the man.

The man’s name is being withheld by order of the court.
