Two charged over Qormi fight which left man with fractured skull

Bail for Qormi men who fractured skull in violent fight

Two men were released on bail after they were charged in connection with a fight which left one man with a fractured skull.

Inspector Roderick Agius accused the two Qormi residents, 26 year-old furniture factory foreman Stephen Bezzina and his father Joseph, 58, who drives a sightseeing bus, with attacking Ephraim Bezzina in Pjazza Narvona, Qormi yesterday evening, leaving the victim with a fractured temple.

Although he bears the same surname as his attackers, the victim is not thought to be related to them.

The inspector told Magistrate Charmaine Galea that there had been “continuous squabbles and bickering” between the men and that the dispute, which had been ongoing for a long time, finally boiled over into violence last night.

Lawyer Yanica Caruana requested bail for the accused.

The court acceded to this request, granting them bail against a deposit of €500 each and a personal guarantee of €2,000. In addition, the men are required to sign a bail book three times per week and observe a curfew.

The court also issued a protection order in favour of the victim.
