No bail for Nigerian man caught selling drugs in Paceville

Zurrieq resident Eric Lawani, who has been living in Malta for one year and who holds an Italian passport, is denying charges of trafficking the drugs within 100 metres from a school. 

A 27-year-old Nigerian man has been remanded in custody after appearing in court charged with trafficking cannabis in Paceville – one of nine men arrested in raids carried out by the drug squad last night. 

Zurrieq resident Eric Lawani, who has been living in Malta for one year and who holds an Italian passport, is denying charges of trafficking the drugs within 100 metres from a school. 

Police inspector Nikolai Sant, prosecuting, told Magistrate Joe Mifsud that the man had been caught by undercover drug squad policemen whilst in the act of exchanging the drugs for payment. 

Police said they will be arraigning a number of Italians and Maltese nationals, who were also arrested for drug possession during the raids, in the coming weeks.
