Man arrested for possession of 55 packages of 'suspected drugs'

A man was arrested after 55 packs of substances thought to be drugs were found in a stable near the Marsa racecourse

A man was arrested earlier today after being found in possession of 55 packages containing suspected heroin and cocaine.

The arrest took place after a number of searches were carried out in stables close to the Marsa racecourse.

The Drugs squad was assisted by the Rapid Intervention Unit and the canine unit, and the arrests were carried out after various weeks of observation.

25 packets of brown powder and 30 packets of white powder, thought to be heroin and cocaine respectively, were found during the search.

Another man was also arrested in connection to the find, and he is helping the police in their investigations.

Duty magistrate Josette Demicoli and a number of experts are participating in the investigation.
