Two admit to stealing TV and 50 bottles of alcohol

Court imposes rehabilitative measures on the men, who pleaded guilty to multiple thefts from an Msida residence

Two Msida youths have been sentenced after pleading guilty to stealing a television and around 50 bottles of alcoholic beverages from a residence in Msida.

Inspector Frank Anthony Tabone charged 31 year old Keith Mallia and 22 year old Sean Micallef with having stolen the items over the course of several days in December and January. Micallef alone was also charged with relapsing and breaching the conditions of a previous bail decree imposed by Magistrate Aaron Bugeja on 30th September.

Magistrate Monica Vella sentenced Mallia, who is currently undergoing a drug rehabilitation programme at San Blas, to an 11-month sentence suspended for three years and placed him under a three year supervision order to ensure the programme achieves its aims.

Micallef, who is currently serving a jail sentence for separate theft convictions, had his sentence extended for a further 18 months. The magistrate recommended the Director of Prisons provide the man with the necessary assistance to overcome his stealing habit.

Lawyer Patrick Valentino defended the two accused.
