Woman granted bail for trashing boyfriend's car after row

A woman has been released on bail after she appeared in court this afternoon, charged with damaging her boyfriend's car after an argument.

Inspector Trevor Micallef charged Aleksandra Lukovic from Serbia with wilful damage to the a Mazda registered to Stefan Atanasov Boyanov, before Magistrate Anthony Vella today. The car had been parked in Swieqi at the time.

The 39 year-old Rabat resident, who gave her occupation as a massage therapist, is denying the charges.

The woman clarified that she was currently unemployed and that her expenses were normally paid for by the victim. Lukovic told the court that she had been living with the man for just under a year “off and on.”

The accused claimed to have been injured during an episode of domestic violence at some point before the damage was inflicted on the car, but no further details of the alleged violence emerged in today's arraignment. Defence lawyer Noel Bartolo informed the court that the woman would be filing a police report about the domestic violence incident.

Magistrate Vella granted the woman bail against a personal guarantee of €2,000, before sending the acts of the proceedings to the registrar for them to be assigned to the St. Julian's district.
