Italian passenger, 19, arrested on arrival from Sicily after drugs find

19-year-old Italian man arrested for possession of suspected cannabis, upon his arrival from Sicily

A 19-year-old Italian passenger was arrested upon arrival in Malta from Sicily on June 1 at around 11.50pm.

Customs officials said that man was screened upon arriving via catamaran from Sicily. Upon checking his personal luggage, the officials said that they found a metallic container containing what is suspected to be cannabis.

Some 51 capsules were also found in a vitamin container in the second luggage. These capsules were tested using a narcotics field test, and indicated positive for morphine.

The Police drug squad unit was immediately informed, and placed the passenger under arrest.

Investigations are still underway.
