24-year-old charged with string of 16 robberies

24-year-old charged with string of 16 robberies and two Romanians were conditionally discharged after attempting to rob English tourist

24-year-old Wayne Camilleri, from Tarxien, was charged with a string of 16 robberies earlier this afternoon. Camilleri was charged with stealing nearly €4,000 worth of jewellery from homes in Harmun.

Inspector Kurt Zahra, from the Criminal Investigation Department, said Camilleri had been apprehended Camilleri during one of the robberies.

Camilleri said he was currently unemployed and did not contest the arrest but pleaded not guilty. He was remanded into custody.

Two Romanians were also conditionally discharged for three-years after they pleaded guilty to trying to rob an English tourist who was in Mdina on Saturday afternoon.

Marius Sandu, 34 and Lucica Ivancui, 33, did not contest their arrest and the prosecution said that they had cooperated with the police “to an extent”.

Magistrate Neville Camilleri presided.
