A 17-year-old youth has been remanded in custody after being charged with complicity in two burglaries and the attempted burglary of a bar in St Paul's Bay.

Inspectors Godwin Scerri and Nicholas Vella told Magistrate Doreen Clarke that a police patrol had arrested the accused, who cannot be named on account of his age, together with another person on 11 September at around 3am, as he was entering Belmar Bar after smashing a window.

This morning, the jobless youth pleaded guilty to that attempt, but denied stealing cash in a break-in at the Sunflower hotel in St Paul's Bay on 11 July and to charges of having stolen electronics from a private residence in the seaside town, four days later.

He also denied charges of having committed an offence during the operative period of a suspended sentence and relapsing.

It is understood that the accomplice in the attempted burglary is to be charged in the coming days.

The youth was unable or unwilling to specify where he lived and as a result, lawyer Josette Sultana, appearing as legal aid, did not request bail.
