Youths admit to having sex with girls aged 13 and 15

Two youths from Marsa have been sentenced to probation after they admitted to having sex with underage girls.

Elton Meli and Jason Mamo, aged 18 and 19 respectively, were arraigned before magistrate Francesco Depasquale this afternoon, charged with participating in sexual activities with underage persons.

Inspector Joseph Busuttil told the court how the girls – aged 13 and 15 respectively – had later regretted their illicit liaison, which they then revealed to social workers, who then filed a police report. They had explained how the boys had picked them up from St Lucia, before driving them to Marsa in separate cars, where they had intercourse with the youths.

Meli alone was also a charged with defiling a minor, the 15-year-old girl having been deemed as having already been defiled.

Assisted by lawyers Robert Galea and David Farrugia Sacco, the youths pleaded guilty to the charges.

The court placed Meli and Mamo on probation for 36 and 24 months respectively.
