An 18-year-old supermarket cashier from Zurrieq has been charged with robbing €8,000 from her cash register so as to fund her drug habit.

Inspector Jeffrey Scicluna told magistrate Charmaine Galea that the young woman, whose name cannot be disclosed by court order, had robbed the money over a series of ten thefts.

She was arrested last night after her employer filed a police report, after noticing that cash had been going missing from the till for the past few weeks.

The young woman, whose name cannot be disclosed by court order, was released on bail against a deposit of €5,000. She was ordered to sign the bail book everyday and not to leave her home except to go to school. The court also appointed a probation officer to help her combat her drug addiction
