Policeman suffers grievous injuries during drugs arrest in St Julian's

A total of eight individuals were arrested for drug possession in the early hours of Christmas day

A police sergeant suffered grievous injuries while police were attempting to arrest a Somali man who was found to be in possession of cannabis resin. The police have said that the man was found to be carrying cannabis with the intention to sell it.

He is expected to be taken to court over the coming days, and will be charged with aggravated drug possession as well as inflicting grievous injuries on a policeman, among other charges.

The police said that a further seven individuals, aged between 18 and 36, were caught in possession of substances believed to be cocaine during searches carried out in a number of establishments in St Julian's.

Police investigations are still underway.
