Three cars caught fire in what appears to be two separate incidents early this morning, with police investigating the circumstances around the fires.

Two of the cars, a BMW and a Toyota Corolla, caught fire on Triq il-Laqxija, Birkirkara, at 4:30am.

A police investigation in underway, with police being unable to confirm weather the cause of the fire was arson.

A garden fence was also damaged as a result of the fire, but no injuries were reported.

Earlier, at 3:30am, another car, a Toyota iQ, caught fire on Triq it-Telgha tax-Xemxija.

While police could not confirm the circumstance around that fire, local media reported it to be a case of arson, seemingly a warning to the car owner to silence her barking dog.

A can hanging on a nearby fence carried a warning telling the car-owner to “keep your dog under control.”

A neighbour reportedly noticed the can three days ago.

Last week, a similar incident took place when a pickup truck was engulfed by flames in Gharghur. No one was injured in that incident.
