Police have arrested a Serbian man who they believe is responsible for an attack late Saturday night which partially blinded 28-year-old husband and father Ryan Magro.

Magro, who works as a barman for Munchies Bar in Bugibba, is a well-known musician, and plays guitar for Malta's Eurovision singer Claudia Faniello as well as Ozzy Lino.

Witnesses to the incident said that two men were asked to leave after becoming intoxicated and began to bother other patrons. One of the men then turned to Magro, who was smoking a cigarette outside, and smashed a beer glass in his face, causing grievous injuries to his left eye. Magro’s family members and witnesses described the attack as “unprovoked.”

Pictures of the aggressors had been published in a bid to bring them to justice.

Last night, police arrested the 23-year-old suspect along with two other men following a police raid in a Qawra apartment.

The suspect and the other man who was asked to leave the bar on the night of the incident are understood to have shaved their heads and their beards to avoid being recognised.
