Elderly man dies after finding himself in difficulty at Marsalforn bay

An elderly man died in hospital today after falling unconscious while he was swimming in Marsalforn, Gozo.

According to a police statement, beach-goers noticed the 89-year-old St Paul’s Bay resident was floating on the water, unconscious, and administered first aid.

Police were informed of the incident at 11:45am.

The man was conveyed to Gozo General Hospital by ambulance, where he later passed away.

A magisterial inquiry has been appointed into the case whilst police investigations are still underway.
