Fingerprints on vandalised cars at Park and Ride linked to prison inmate

A man, who was jailed in September for damaging a number of parked cars, has been charged with committing a similar offence a month prior

Inspector Jeffrey Scicluna explained that evidence had come to light, linking Shaun Caruana to a number of reports about damage caused to vehicles at the Blata l-Bajda park and ride on 21 August. Forensic experts examined the scene and later reported that they had found the accused’s fingerprints.

Caruana, 22, pleaded not guilty to the charges this morning.

The accused told the court that he did not work, as he was currently an inmate at Corradino Correctional Facility. He had been jailed for three and a half years in September, after admitting to identical charges and had claimed, during that arraignment, to have resorted to a crime as he was unable to find employment.

The accused informed the court that he was not going to be requesting bail, as he was presently being detained in prison, where he was serving a prison sentence.

Caruana was remanded in custody, as a result.

Lawyer Noel Bartolo was legal aid.
