A 32-year-old man from Zebbug, who is already on probation, has denied charges relating to vehicle theft this afternoon.

Before Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras, Simon Borg pleaded not guilty to stealing a vehicle, stealing number plates and using the vehicle to commit a number of other thefts. He was also accused of breaching the conditions of a previous release from arrest.

Inspector Elton Taliana explained how the police had been searching for a stolen vehicle that was being used in a number of burglaries in Birkirkara, Qormi and Zebbug. Officers had found the accused in the car, outside his home past a court-imposed curfew, he said.

Police had also found a number of burglary tools and related material inside the car, he said.

Borg pleaded not guilty. The court ordered the accused to continue living under the conditions imposed by his current probation regime while the compilation of evidence continues.

Inspectors Elton Taliana and Kylie Borg are prosecuting, whilst lawyers Franco Debono and Marion Camilleri are assisting the accused.
