Democratic Party leader Anthony Buttigieg has asked the court to take into its possession the Panama Papers cache handed over by the German police.

In a court application filed this morning, Buttigieg said the information could be relevant to the magisterial inquiry into allegations of kickbacks from the cash for passports scheme made against the Prime Minister’s chief of staff Keith Schembri.

Buttigieg’s court application, signed by lawyer Joe Giglio, asks the court to take possession of the data cache that German federal police will pass on to the Maltese authorities because of its relevance to the ongoing magisterial inquiry.

MaltaToday reported this morning that the German police were going to pass on the information to Magistrate Anthony Vella, who is leading the inquiry into the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia.

The newspaper also reported that Vella was likely to pass on the information to another magistrate for a thorough investigation on Panama Papers.
