An operation is currently under way to recover a corpse which was reportedly spotted in the sea, off the Qawra coast.

Media reports said that the body had initially been noticed in the waters, close to shore in the Ta' Fra Ben restaurant area, by a foreign national on Thursday afternoon.

The foreigner called the police, who, on their arrival at the scene, corroborated the sighting with two other persons who had also noticed the body.

The police and Armed Forces of Malta subsequently engaged in an operation to recover the corpse. An AFM Alouette III helicopter is being used to aid in the recovery effort.
