Two youths injured in early morning Cirkewwa boat crash

Two youths were injured early this morning after a boat they were on crashed into the rocks close to Cirkewwa, the police said.

In a statement on Wednesday, the police said the incident happened at roughly 5am. They said the two youths – a 19-year-old and a 20-year-old, both of whom live in Mellieha – crashed their boat into the rocks. The boat capsized as a result.

Civil protection and the armed forces were called on site together with a medical team from Mater Dei Hospital.

The two youths were later taken to the hospital for treatment.

The 19-year-old was certified as having sustained grievous injuries while the condition of the 20-year-old is still unknown.

According to media reports, one of the two youths was unconscious when he was brought ashore.

The police said their investigations were still ongoing.
