Woman charged with mugging disabled man was out on four suspended sentences
The violent mugging happened in February last year, but the police were unable to trace the accused because she had changed her address
A 25-year-old woman from Cospicua has been denied bail after she was charged with mugging and slightly injuring a physically disabled man.
Kimberlyn Xuereb was arraigned before magistrate Ian Farrugia this morning, accused of the aggravated theft of a wallet containing credit cards and cash from the man, slightly injuring him, carrying a weapon during the commission of the offence, attacking and threatening him and breaching no less than four suspended sentences.
The violent mugging took place in Valletta in February 2018, but police were unable to trace her until recently due to her having changed address. Inspector Priscilla Caruana Lee told the court that the woman was stopped and arrested by police yesterday after being recognised.
Lawyer Graziella Tanti, appointed as legal aid by the court, entered a not guilty plea and requested bail. The lawyer said that the woman had been keeping appointments with her probation officer and making progress, which could be lost if she were to be held in prison.
The court, however, deemed the woman untrustworthy and denied bail, also due to the fact that the alleged victim was yet to testify.
