The EU must provide guns, weapons, and ammunition to Ukraine in support against Russia, EU foreign minister Josep Borrell said on Monday.

In an informal presspoint, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said that "we have to provide ammunition, high caliber guns and anti-tank weapons" to Ukraine.

The High Representative was on his way to talk with defense ministers so they could advise Borell as to the situation on the ground in Ukraine so that a coordinated and effective European response could be put forward.

A chief concern was how best to spend the half a billion euro the EU would be mobilizing to support Ukraine in the war with Russia.

“How best can we coordinate these efforts?” Borrell said. He added that a united Europe would be strong enough to help Ukraine in this fight.

The High Representative repeatedly mentioned that sending high-caliber guns and anti-tank weapons was of chief importance to help the Ukrainians repel the Russian invasion.

Borrell also commented on the referendum happening in Belarus referring to it as a “fake referendum” and a “dangerous path” seeing as the decision is on whether to make Belarus a “nuclear” country, meaning whether to supply the country with Nuclear missiles.

When asked about the prospect of Ukraine joining the EU Borrell said that was preemptive and suggested focus should be on the current issues. “Ukraine clearly has a European perspective but we need to ask questions for today's crisis”.
