Mediterranean EU member states are meeting in Athens in an effort to establish a common Southern European front ahead of the upcoming Eurogroup in Bratislava.

Malta’s prime minister Joseph Muscat joined the leaders of Greece, France, Cyprus, Portugal and Italy in Athens.

The six leaders are discussing the challenges that lie ahead in relation to migration, security, the economy and growing Euro skepticism in Europe, with the aim of developing a new European vision and a Mediterranean perspective.

At the end of the summit, the participants will issue a joint statement on their discussions, before visiting the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre in Athens.
