Labour MEP Marlene Mizzi will be filing a libel suit against PN MEP David Casa over the latter’s claims that Mizzi was pocketing EU funds intended for her to rent out offices to fulfil her role as a member of the European Parliament.

In comments to MaltaToday regarding allegations he had inflated his office’s expenses in order to be able to claim the full expenses allowance, Casa accused Labour MEPs of “not accounting for one cent of their EP budgets.

The MEP referred to an MEP who was leasing her properties from her daughter “payment free, necessarily implying these funds are pocketed”.

“I have a physical premises rented from third parties that are paid for monthly, the cost of which is counts for a significant portion of that budget,” Casa said.

“What a sleazy, dishonest, liar you are David Casa. You are sinking in serious scandal and you are trying to bring others down with you. You picked the wrong person to throw dirt at. This will not stop here,” Mizzi wrote in one of a series of tweets.

Replying to Mizzi, also on Twitter, Casa insisted that he had only repeated Mizzi's own words, adding that he was looking forward to their day in court.
