Libyan-Maltese chamber of commerce supports Libyan humanitarian efforts

Libyan-Maltese Chamber of Commerce makes donation to the CPD towards funding Malta humanitarian efforts to support Libya.

The Libyan-Maltese Chamber of Commerce said it has been following closely the developments on the conflict in Libya on a day-to-day basis. The chamber said that the recent developments “have been of great concern” and that it is following development closely.

It augured that the developments which transpired over recent weeks work towards a peaceful end for the “long dragged conflict, which has unfortunately left its negative mark on the commercial relations between Malta and our friendly neighbours.”

The Council of the Libyan-Maltese Chamber of Commerce said it is aware of the imminent humanitarian needs of the Libyan people at this hour, and added that it has made a donation to the Head of the Civil Protection Department Patrick Murgo so that these funds are properly channelled toward the efforts being done by the Government and the people of Malta towards this cause.

During the presentation, Mr Frank V. Farrugia, President of the Libyan-Maltese Chamber of Commerce said that "the humanitarian role which Malta has and is currently playing at the moment is most important and is being highly appreciated by all.”

He added however that all these efforts should be augmented by structured commercial plans so that Maltese businessmen could receive the necessary official support and backing to re-establish themselves in the market, well before other bigger countries do so.

These efforts, Farrugia added, are already being shown as from to-day with the re-opening of the Malta Embassy in Tripoli.

The Chamber also expressed appreciation of such efforts in favour of its members.

Farrugia added that "It is sincerely hoped that Libya will be seeing a new dawn of real democracy and freedom in the coming days, so that such an ambiance will make Libya more conducive to business with its friendly neighbours."
