Former Nationalist Party secretary general Michael Piccinino will form part of an internal body responsible for reforming the party's statute.

Piccinino announced this on Friday, stating that the PN invited him to the internal commission.

His nomination to the commission was approved on Thursday by the PN executive.

Piccinino announced his intention to step down as secretary general last September after three years in the position. At the time, he also announced that he will be contesting the next general election.

The PN statute was last amended in 2020. Among the changes, the PN had moved to change the structure of its leadership in a move distance itself from a top-heavy leadership where the leader shares very little power.

The statute was amended in the same year that a group of self-proclaimed "Blue Heroes" ousted Adrian Delia from the PN's leadership
