PN is delaying the inevitable - AD
Alternattiva Demokratika says Nationalist Party is just wasting time with leadership contests and calling general elections is the only solution for country’s unstable politics.
The Nationalist Party is playing a partisan game with the country according to Alternattiva Demokratika Chairperson Michael Briguglio who said the party was just wasting valuable time.
“Unfortunately the PN is playing a partisan game and will be making use of its power of incumbency. The local elections will allow the party to see voting patterns across the different localities. Big parties seem to be exempt from data protection. The PN is just delaying time for general elections which are inevitable,” Briguglio said.
During a press conference in Paceville, St Julian’s, Briguglio also said that the recent call for a leadership contest within the PN was not done in the interest of the country.
“The PN’s leadership contest is being done in the interest of the party itself and not for the country. It is simply increasing uncertainty in politics which is extending to the uncertainty of the people,” Briguglio said.
“The instability in Maltese politics can only realistically be solved by the general elections,” Briguglio concluded.
Introducing the candidate for St Julian’s Local Council, Yvonne Arqueros Ebejer, Briguglio said that the current local council members of St Julian's were not listening to the residents.
“The interest in St Julian’s lies in business and development which goes against policies implemented by the Malta Environment and Planning Authority. This development is being supported by both Labour Party and PN councillors who are all in favour of business,” Briguglio said.
The AD chairperson said other important things were being ignored and used the Portomaso Park as an example.
“The new park has lost all identity and closes at night. It used to have swings and a five-a-side football pitch for the youngsters. Now, it just doesn’t attract anyone and the children have lost another play area,” Briguglio said.
AD Deputy Chairperson Arqueros Ebejer said that although she was initially hesitant about becoming a candidate for St Julian’s local council, living there made her change her mind.
“I noticed that residents’ rights were being neglected. Although development is good for tourism and businesses in the area, none of the residents were ever consulted about any of the works. It is just careless development and the local council should be responsible for the rights of the residents,” Arqueros Ebejer said.
