Breast cancer biggest women killer
Data published in the Lancet Oncology Report reveals how breast cancer is the main culprit behind female deaths in Malta, while prostrate cancer is the most widespread in men.
Breast cancer is the most widespread cancer amongst Maltese women, The Lancet Oncology report revealed three days ago. With breast cancer being the biggest female killer, 42% of women still shy away from free mammograms.
Never the less, the country has placed second to Iceland in the number of female patients who survived breast cancer for at least five years.
Released online three days ago, the Lancet Oncology analyse information from European cancer registers in 29 countries, between the years 2000 - 2007. The data compares five-year survival rates from diagnosis for more than nine million adults.
The most common type of cancer amongst Maltese men, however over the past seven years, Malta has the largest survival rate amongst those suffering from this king of cancer.
