Living without a home for four years – An unemployed mother of two

Despite applying for social housing in 2010, a young mother has been left homeless for the past years.

Despite filing an application for government housing four years ago, a young single mother has now been living without a place she can call home for four years, Sunday newspaper Illum.

Instead, as she struggles daily to make ends meet, the young mother of two, has been living in a house for only  a couples of days each week after two persons offered her their home.

The woman, a mother of two boys aged six and two, had originally applied for social housing in 2010 after the house she was living in with her parents had parts of the roof condemned.

Her situation took a turn for the worse after she was kicked out of the house.

Unemployed, the woman recounts to Illum her daily ordeal as she tries to make ends meet.

“I try to give my children a normal life as much as possible, even though my dire financial situation means that I can only give them chicken nuggets and pasta to eat,” she tells Illum.

Moreover, she explains how her homelessness is also negatively affecting her chances of employment since she has no place to leave her young children.

She says that a ray of light appeared in March, when she was told that an appointment with the housing authority will be set up to evaluate closely her case, but she has heard nothing else since.
