A 53-year-old woman from Cospicua and her 16-year-old son managed to get out of the car the woman was driving when it went into the sea earlier this afternoon in Marsascala.

The accident happened at around 5:00pm on the quay below street level on Triq is-Salini when the woman and the young boy were going back home. Sources told MaltaToday that the woman was trying to get her car, a Peugeot 106, out of a tight parking spot.

The woman was said to have been negotiating her exit without hitting the car, especially since she had just purchased her car two days before.

It seems that at one point instead of reversing the car, she drove forward and, with little time to react and brake, the car headed straight into the water.

Both the mother and her son came out of the incident unscathed, except for being under shock.

District Police were on the scene soon after.
