The Health Secretariat has refuted a PN newspaper’s claims that the lifeless body of a Libyan national was brought over to Malta.

On Sunday, PN news organ il-mument claimed the lifeless body of a seriously injured Libyan man was brought over to Malta after he had died on his way to Malta.

“Nevertheless,” the PN newspaper claimed, “the body was still brought to Malta and conveyed to the emergency unit at Mater Dei, where he was certified as being dead.”

The PN newspaper also took exception at the government’s “lack of information” about the injured Libyan nationals being brought to Malta, arguing that it is still unknown whether these people belonged to a particular militia.

However, the allegations were rebutted by the Health Secretariat. Moreover, it held that Malta would continue to “honour its obligation in terms of providing injured Libyan nationals medical assistance.”

“It is a pity that the Opposition is continuing to act irresponsibly and act in a partisan manner even in issues involving the life and death of injured persons,” the Health Secretariat said.

In addition it held that while in 2011 a PN government felt that it was an obligation towards humanity to assist Libyan nationals, the current Opposition is changing its stance.
