Residents of the ‘Erba Mwiezeb’ housing estate have been betrayed by this government with promises that haven’t been kept, PN executive committee president Ann Fenech said at a press conference today.
"Prior to the last general election, the then leader of the Opposition Joseph Muscat, had promised residents of the area a regeneration of the housing estate," Fenech said.
Fenech pointed out that three years ago Muscat had promised a public garden providing facilities including wi-fi and CCTV security would be built at the cost of around €400,000.
“Three years have passed since the promise and the election of a PL majority council and we still haven’t seen any changes,” Fenech stressed.
She added that this was not an isolated incident and that the government had made several promises it couldn’t keep, listing the promise to convert the BWSC power station from heavy fuel oil to gas as an example.
Local council spokesperson David Agius pointed out that under a Labour party majority, the St. Paul’s Bay local council had seen three years of instability and dissatisfaction.
“The residents of this locality deserve some stability and projects that are actually enacted. These elections should be used as an opportunity for residents to see the changes they want,” Agius said.
Fenech added that the effectiveness of a PN majority local council could be seen even in a comparison to nearby local councils like Mosta, where the council had enacted many of the promised projects and improvements.
