The PN Deputy leader, Beppe Fenech Adami is calling on the Government to shoulder political responsibility for the second death of a person while in police custody.

The Nationalist Party said the excuse that the person died at an instant when he was not being supervised by the police, does not offer any form of consolation.

“Not even the fact that a Magisterial Inquiry was launched over the matter can offer peace of mind. These inquiries can take very long and the conclusion are not necessarily made public,” Fenech Adami insists.

He said that the public still does not know what was concluded by the investigation, which started three months ago.

“According to what the Police Commissioner said, the this case is identical to the previous one three months ago, shows that nothing was done to avoid a second tragedy.”

Fenech Adami said that when a person committed suicide while in police custody during the previous legislature, the Labour Party had called for political accountability.
